Wheel of Destiny

“Would you like to play a game?”

Life’s giving you another chance to screw it up. Another 5 days. To make it right or at least feels right. Live once more, built friendship, bond, or fall in love, or dump or apologize. It’s up to you how to live it, but remember.

No regrets.

You saw a man in white, faintly radiating light from his body. He smiled as he said what he need to say, and he’s gone in a split of second along with the blinding light, leaving you and him behind.

Him, Tsuruga Ren, your best friend forever. You met him when you were still kids. You went to the same high school with him and he helped you a lot with the work.

The man in your embrace, soaked with crimson red.

You realized what happened as soon as your sense work again, the smell of blood, smokes, gasoline and him panting woke you. You tightened your grip around him, despite your seemingly broken arm. You put your finger on his wrist, finding his heartbeat weakened. You suddenly felt your world crashed. You whispered softly, “Wake up, Ren. Wake up.”

But then you didn’t need to be worry for so much. His bruises, his cuts and injuries, slowly fade away, healing faster than anyone could ever-experienced cause almost immediately, his eyes fluttered open and he grinned widely toward you.

“You really suck at driving,” he said, and you laughed at his word.

He coughed a bit and stood up, and you reached out for his out-stretched hand, offering you help. His eyes frantically looking for something, and you realize that something when your eyes landed on your car, clearly undamaged and glistening as new.

“I thought we just got into an accident,” he mumbled.

“Me too,” you responded almost immediately, disgustingly amazed enough to leave his mouth hanging open before Ren gently tap it closed again.

“It will be alright.” He smiled at you and pulls you toward the car, and soon you realized that you are smiling too. He sat on the driver’s sit in hurried, sticking his tongue out as he said, “I’m driving.”

You pouted a little before hopping to the passenger seat, sighing in relief before he started the engine.

You noted something weird on the way. There’s no other car, no people, no stoplights, no houses or sky-scraper. Just you and Ren, your car, and maybe the sky, road and green grasses if it counts. And as hours passed, you realized that the sun isn’t moving at all.

“Isn’t this so peaceful?” Ren said, and you turned at him with a frown.

“There’s no one here.”

“There’s you,” he grinned, and somehow you feel that you must be blushing at least slightly. He chuckled and patted your head, adding, “It’s okay if you don’t like it. I’ll go back to my house.”

Surprisingly, Ren managed to find the way back to your house. And there it is, your house, clearly undamaged and stood out. What makes you startled is that your house suddenly located in front of his house.

His house, which usually takes half an hour to go by car, simply laid there, in front of yours.

He parked the car and get out of the car, opening your door quickly before your head even order your hand to do so.

You smiled, waving before he walked into his house. Somehow, you’re not surprised when you saw his room directly when you peeked through the window in your room.

You throw yourself to the bed, trying to recall everything. A man—seemingly an angel—telling you that you got another 5 days to live... Or something like that. To make bonds... Fall in love...

Wait. So you must fall in love with someone within 5 days?

With whom? You asked yourself and as soon as you tried to think of a name, reality hits you. There’s only two people—or seemingly so—in this world at this point of time. It’s you... And Ren.

You tried to recall anyone, anywhere, any name, but you didn’t come up with anything. Not even your mom’s name. On the other hand, even face, or features. You tried to think so hard, but you couldn’t recall any of it.

Your hands quickly searched for the photo album in the drawer, and you’re not really surprised when you couldn’t find any other face beside you... And him.

It’s only Ren... And it doesn’t make sense.

You just dumped Ren a few days ago, you remind yourself. So how on earth could you fall in love with him within 5 days?

Your mind is interrupted by the sound of certain someone screaming. You don’t know why, but you suddenly jumped out of the window, and arrived unharmed in his room. He was lying on the ground, clearly in pain, clutching onto his shirt, and crimson red soon stained his chest.

“What happened?” You shrieked, hugging him promptly and he was panting heavily.

He soon relaxed to the touch, and he cupped your face and smiled. “It’s nothing. Just an open wound. It will be alright.”

Your house is missing. It appeared that when you broke your window to reach his house, your house simply disappears. It didn’t concern you any longer when you must sleep with him on his bed. You didn’t bother to check for other bedroom, cause you’re certain enough it is no longer there.

The world now seemed to do anything to make you fall in love within 5 days.

“4 days left?” he asked when you told him about the angel.

You nodded, enjoying the omelet he made you for breakfast. He knew well that you have no sense of cooking, and gratefully he knew how to cook some certain food.

He smiled softly and caressed your cheek. “It’s easy then,” he said, “Hurry up and fall in love with me.”

“We got no time for that,” you said.

“I’ll wait for you. How long, and until when, I don’t know. I don’t think I’ll ever know. But I’ll wait. Long enough for my death to come.”

You tried to mask the blush in your face by pouting, noting that you must be careful later on. “It’s not that easy.”

“It is,” Ren laughed as he placed his plate along with other dishes, “All you need to do is fall in love... With me.”

Third day.

You wanted to go to the amusement park. Ren smiled, saying that there would not be any amusement park at this point. You laughed when a minute later, you found the amusement park beside his house.

Wearing his shirt cause there’s no other clothes you could wear, you went to the amusement park. Ren said that he is extremely amazed at how fast they built the amusement park, and you laugh in response.

The first game you wanna play is the Roller Coaster. You figure out that if life’s going to be over in another two days, you must at least try this game once.

He laughed when he heard your answer, saying you’re being such a little girl. You pouted, but then you started to think. What is there to achieve? What’s behind the deadline?

Your mind is again, interrupted, when your eyes catch the sight of the rail going down. He soon offer a hand, and you quickly grabbed them without thinking, and scream as loud as you can when the speed increase rapidly.

You played so much more terrifying games with Ren, taking notes that you can never die playing here cause your life has been decided.

Yesterday is awesome.

Today’s not different. You found yourself playing at the beach, splashing water with Ren. You realized that if you wish for it, it’ll just appear out of nowhere.

His wound, somehow, look better than few days ago. His smile, his laugh, make you happy.

“When are you going to admit it?” he asked you, and you realized that you stop splashing him since who knows.

“Is there anything to admit?”

“You love me,” he grinned.

“I’m not,” you said, but you are dead worried when you saw him smiled painfully as he ran toward his house. Your worry increase when you saw the blood trace to his house.

He’s bleeding again.

“It’s our last day,” Ren smiled, a little bit bitter than usual.

You wanna cried with all your might. “What should we do, Ren?”

“You should just trust me and believe it when I say that you’re in love with me,” he said, and you’re just grateful when he didn’t see you right, because you’re burning red.

“I-I’m not...” you stuttered, “I’m not in love.”

He smiled a bit. It look fake as it is, he never good in faking any of it. Then he fell down.

“Ren?! What happened?!” You knelt beside him, bringing him to your embrace.

He was drenched in blood. You tore his shirt, revealing a deep cut just above his heart. You felt like dying when you found the boy’s chest empty.

Ren’s heart just disappeared.

“It will be alright,” he said.

“Ren... Don’t leave me... I love...” A sudden light blind your vision for a while and he saw the man again.

“You had spin the wheel... You bet... And you lost,” he suddenly disappeared.

You’re back to the road, hugging Ren tightly. The smell of blood, smokes and gasoline, again, woke your sense. Your car was there, crushed at the front of the tree. Blood is everywhere, and your arm is broken once more. The cut and injuries on you and him, is back as it should be.

Ren lied. You are never alright from the moment you met the angel. Whether the lie was directed to you or to himself, you don’t know.

Not so far, you could hear the sound of police car getting closer, ambulances and people screaming. Ren is dying in your hand and you couldn’t do anything about it.

Then it hit you right away.

It’s not him that didn’t want to you to leave him. It’s you. You didn’t want him to leave you.

You want to hear his voice once more. You want to hold him once more, to feel his hand in yours. You want to be with him even a little longer.

But you can’t. There’s just one think that you want him to know, even if it cost you your life.

You smiled and pressed your lips onto the cold ones of Ren. “Ren, I love you too,” you said.

Gray city, frozen traffic, this scene you noticed began to disappear. The warmth of life still does not appear in your life. It snapped you. All this time, you’re sleeping in-between vanished memory where traces of regret and the past you had lost all the time appear when you realized that everything was not ok. There was certainty in both your backs, in dull pain that knows no end.

You would turn back those crazed hands of time even for just a moment. And you’re given the chance to change it, but you still can’t change anything.

And all you remember after is blinding white light and deafening explosion of the car.

Would you like to play a game?

I’m Destiny. I can grant any wish, but I won't do anything unless it's fun. You’ll get one chance in return of your life. Spin the wheel and see what you get. You can get any ending if you’re lucky. Be warned, though, you could spin a curse.
