The Selfish Prince part 1

“Hey, V! Take my grey tux from Alex later!” A voice boomed throughout the room.

Vanz stopped right in her tracks and swiveled around. At the side of the door, stood a man who looked at least 3 years older than she did. Only looking at him had gave away the feelings of thrilled. She quickly nodded as she answered, “Yes.”

The man was Sebastian Keen. Heir of throne. Future king.

“Great. I will see you in my room one hour from now. I’m going to kill you if you show up late,” he said strictly.

The door closed. V sighed. Unable to continue her sleep, she walked out of her little bedroom. It was not even deserve to be call bedroom. It was just a 2.5x3m room with an old bed that he had been using for the last 10 years and a little wardrobe with 4-5 pieces of clothes.

She could not protest. As a servant that had been sell to be loyal to the king’s family, she has no right to get even a room. Having a little bedroom was more than a bless.

As soon as she was out, she would find the worst sight of the palace. The garden that was almost destroys by the storm. No one ever take care of it after the last storm.

Half kilometers ahead was Ian—her best friend since the day she was sold here—walking around with Sebastian’s grey tuxedo on his hand. Quickly, she ran ahead to take the tuxedo from him. It looked so clear that Ian knew that he should give it to Vanz either. They both know that if Sebastian’s orders were not carefully completed, he would have gone mad and make them dead meat.

“Please tell me you got the right grey tux,” Vanz showed begging eyes as she takes the grey tuxedo from him.

“I do hope so,” Ian replied unsurely. “Have a good luck, V.”

Vanz sighed heavily, rubbing her head with her left hand while her right hand raised the grey tuxedo high, checking its percentage on getting the right clothes. However, she still could not determine whether it was the right one or not.

With so much doubt, she finally went upstairs to the fifth floor, where Sebastian’s room placed. She opened the door as gently as she could.

Sebastian was sleeping, soundly. Vanz rolled her eyes. He always acts like that. Act as if he was cool and strict, when actually he was lazy and lack of manner.

Nevertheless, Vanz did not dare to wake him up, or even touch him just an inch. She just hangs the tuxedo on its place beside Sebastian’s bed in silence. To let him sleep was the best option ever. Indeed, good things never happened after she did.

Glued to her memory was the day of Sebastian’s first day of senior high school. That day, he was strictly reminded never to step inside his room unless with his permission, which at the time being he obviously did not possess. She was going to save him from an ever so strict teacher that would punish him if he were late, but at the end, she is slap twice.

She rolled her eyes again after she makes sure everything’s all right. She tiptoed quietly towards the door of the room before a voice full of confidence freeze her on the spot.

“Where are you going?”

Vanz gulped her saliva, cursing herself for not being quiet enough. “You were awake? I am sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb...”

“Why didn’t you wake me up? It’s almost time for archery class,” he said with a glare, which obviously scared her apart.

“You don’t want me to wake you up. You want other servants to do it. You always do.” Her voice becomes softer, cautiously picking up the right words.

Sebastian was taken aback for a second, but he quickly hides it behind his emotionless face. “Use your brain, idiot, he’s not here! If he is not here, you have the responsible to wake me up! Understood?”

Vanz nodded silently. “Yes.”

He smiled in satisfaction, and then he stood up. “You may go back to your room. You could come later with dinner, since I will not eat with dad tonight. Make sure the chef didn’t put any carrot in my food.”

The prince had never treated her appropriately. With such a might, in a second, he was able to make her burst to tears. He just cheerfully makes fun of her, while she was suffering from the orders that could not be delay.

He just such a troublesome prince.

Vanz brought Sebastian’s tray of food into his room—complete with the red roses, just the way he like it (and just how Vanz like it too)—and she saw that he was completely awake, reading the new magazine that suppose to spread out next week. She placed his tray of food onto his table, next to his bed.

“Feed me.”

The sudden request made Vanz froze. Vanz wrinkled her eyebrows, now in deep confusion. “You want me to feed you? You?”

“Yeah,” Sebastian’s tone was firm. “I could not possibly eat with my hands switching pages of the magazine, right?”

The girl rolled her eyes. “You could read the magazine later,” she mumbled, in a tone softer than a sigh.

She scoped a spoonful of the food and brought it to Sebastian’s mouth. He ate it slowly as he began to read the magazine again.

“Hey, V, I never know your complete name. What is it?” he asked as he flipped the page. He glanced to Vanz before he continued. “Don’t tell me you don’t even know it?”

Vanz looked away quickly. She could not possibly tell him. She did not want to. She never has this kind of scene in her mind. She could not even imagine what he will do to her if he knew. If he knew the fact... That she is a girl.

Sebastian rolled his eyes. He closed the magazine and put it on the table located near the bed. He jerked and grabbed her closer. “Answer me.” The voice was deadly, filled to the brim with venom.

A lone tear fell from her eye. She shook her head violently, rapidly wiped away her tear. “I can’t say.”

“Don’t cry, you’re a GROWN UP MAN! Just answer me, damnit!”

“I don’t know!” Vanz cried aloud, the tears started to fell again. She shake, whimpered in fear.

The prince let go of her after he heard her answer. “Fine, whatever, I don’t care. I’ll just call you V as usual.”

Vanz tried to control her breath. She was scared. With all the power left in her, she walked out of the room. Sebastian did not stop her this time; she was grateful enough that he did not.

She always hated him. She always does. Since the first time she saw him standing beside their king at the chamber, she knew she would hate him. She breathes in and out, again, tried to control her breath once more. She let out a sighed come out soundly before she manage to stand up straight.

“V, bring this to the dining hall!” the chef cried.

The girl ran hurriedly. “Yes, sir!”

The sun started to set out quickly. Vanz considered herself lucky because Sebastian had finally decided to eat with the king after couple of days avoiding him. Vanz never knew the main problem itself, but she had accidentally eavesdropped when they fight, and it seemed that Sebastian was asking permission to find a girl from his childhood, and it was denied.

Like she always did at the evening, right after she helped with the dishes, she sat on one of the chair in the kitchen, staring blankly at the sky—which was one of her new habit after arriving at the huge castle—and enjoy her small meal.

However, today, she gave her dinner for Ian. Ian was considered not doing his job well by the guards, so that his meal was taken away. Filled with much care for her best friend, she finally decided that it was the best for her to give the meal to him instead of satisfying herself.

She yawned for the third time that night. As if bored, she turned to the other side, which was full of dishes that other servants need to take care of. She continued looking and there, she spotted two people sitting besides each other’s, cleaning the dishes. One of them was a pretty woman and an average person, and Vanz could swear she almost puked when she saw them starting to kiss each other.

Quickly, she glanced away, only to see Sebastian on the doorway, yelling for her name. She jumped from her chair and ran toward the prince.

“Yes?” she said as she bowed toward him.

“Are you busy right now?” he asked, pretty much just to make sure she was off-duty from her dishes.

Vanz peeked toward the lovers, and their atmosphere seemed to change in all of sudden. Definitely, they would not like to be caught doing such things by the prince, would they?

“No,” she answered politely, but still refusing to call him with such a title like ‘your highness’ or ‘my prince’.

“Great!” He grins happily, grabbing her hand and dragged her out of the kitchen, directly to his room. “I just found this little monster in my room and I want you to kill it.”

Vanz wrinkled her eyebrows. “Little monster?”

“Yeah, a little monster with an ugly black-brown face and such tentacles,” He described the monster perfectly, enough to know what was that monster for real.

“A cockroach?” Vanz guess correctly in higher tone.

“Right, whatever,” he replied, blushing a little as if he was the only one in the word that did not recognize a cockroach. “Just kill it, will you?”

The girl giggled a little, finding it hard not to for the prince’s rare foolish doings. “I will, don’t worry.”

She took a tissue and slapped the cockroach, took it and quickly threw it to the garbage.

“You’re really my hero!” Sebastian exclaimed, hugging her close like a teddy bear—he used to have a teddy bear to sleep with him until his dad took it from him, saying he was too old for it—and gave her a small peck on cheek.

Vanz blushed a little. “Hey, hey, sleep already!”

Sebastian smiled and threw himself to the bed. As he buried his body under the blanket, he looked deep with puppy dog eyes to her and said, “Stay here until I fell asleep, will you?”

“You change your personality again! What’s wrong with you, actually?” Vanz snapped.

“What? I am a prince, am I not?” he smiled sheepishly, followed by a small giggle. Then he laughed and winked at her. “Only in front of my personal servant.”

“Fine, fine, whatever,” the girl sighed, sitting on the chair beside the bed.

The prince giggled again before finally turned himself facing her and closed his eyes, smiling before finally fell asleep.
